Use superscript numbers e.g. 1 in your work to indicate that you have paraphrased or directly quoted from external sources such as books, journal article or websites. The superscript number should appear at the end of the sentence after the full stop.

If you are using a direct quote, provide the page number in the superscript format. For example, Health and Safety Executive.1(p.5) It may also be useful to include a page number for a paraphrase, to direct the reader to the particular part of the source you are referring to.
