Publishers may require your paper to be provided without field codes, and you may also wish to remove them if you plan to share the document in electronic format with others.
To remove field codes and save the formatted citations and bibliography as text:
From within your Word document select Convert Citations and Bibliography from the EndNote toolbar, and then select Convert to Plain Text.
Your document no longer contains Cite While You Write field codes, so you cannot reformat with Cite While You Write.
Note: You should always save a copy of your document with the field codes intact in case you want to change your output style in the future.
