If you try to log in to a Library Services subscribed online service, such as an eBook or eJournal you may see this error message: "authentication failed" (screenshot below).

MMU eresource login page with authentication failed error message

This usually appears when the authentication system does not recognise either your username or your password.

Try typing it again, just in case you've mistyped something or have caps lock on by mistake.

Make sure you are logging in with your University ID and password, the same ID and password you use to log in to MyMMU and PCs on campus.

Have you changed your University password? If so, have you asked your browser to remember the old password? If you have, delete the password remembered by your browser and type in your new password.

If you have you not logged in using your University account recently, it could be that you need to change your password. All staff and students must change their password regularly. You can test this, by logging in to MyMMU? if you cannot log in to MyMMU either, contact the IT helpdesk for help resetting your University password (links below).

If you are no longer currently enrolled as an Manchester Metropolitan University student or on the Manchester Metropolitan University HR system as a full member of staff. Your username and password will not be recognised. You will get this error if you try to log in with your expired University username and password.

Finally, if you can usually access library online resources and suddenly are unable and all the things above definitely do not apply to you, please alert the Library helpdesk or IT helpdesk (Contact details in the links below).
