Most Ebook Central eBooks give you the option either to read the eBook online or to download the eBook for 1 day.
If you are working on a computer that is shared by others (for example, a PC in the Library or elsewhere on campus), you should always choose to read eBooks online.
Please note: Books in heavy demand are read online only. In times of very high demand you may need to wait until other users have finished reading the eBook before you can read it.
To download books to a personal computer/laptop:
- Select Download
- Use the Get Adobe Digital Editions link if you do not already have it installed on your computer.
- Select Download Your Book
Tip: after download, if you do not get an option to open or save, check the downloads folder on your computer.
To download to a mobile device
Firstly your device must be compatible with Adobe DRM and you will need the Bluefire Reader App from either Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Ebook Central will know what device you are using and offer you the means to download the software you need. You will also need an Adobe Digital Editions account, (sign up for free here).
For example, if I want to download using an iPad, the download menu tells me that I will need the Bluefire Reader and offers a link to Download and install. You will only need to do this once, but you will need to keep the Bluefire Reader app installed on your device as you will read the downloaded eBook using this app.
Then when you have the Bluefire Reader app installed, you choose your loan length and format and select Download.
The first time you use the Bluefire Reader app you will be asked to log in with your Adobe Digital Editions Account ID.
After the eBook downloads, choose Read now to open the eBook.
